Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh beat The Cuban team in Beach Volleyball of Beijing Olympics

Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh; The beach volleyball’s dominant team ranked No. 1 in the world prepares for a second gold medal in Beijing Olympics. They beat The Cuban team their 103rd consecutive victory, to virtually assure themselves of a berth in the round of 16, which gets underway Friday.

Beach Volley is one of the most Hottest matches in Beijing 2008 Olympics, bikini-clad competitors, cheered on by dancing “beach babies” cheer leaders and a raucous crowd.

“Beach-babies” sporting bikinis danced to rock music played by a DJ, and were sometimes accompanied by Olympic volunteers.

Some 12,000 spectators in Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Ground seemed to enjoy the time-outs - during which the cheerleaders danced and huge video screens panned the audience - as much as the competition.

The Scariest Anti-Smoking Campaign in Brasil

HEALTH authorities in Brazil are renowned for their strong anti-smoking campaign stand with Shocking images showing the dangers of cigarette smoking, including a fetus lying in an ashtray, have emerged in the latest anti-smoking campaign.

The Health Minister in Brazil, José Gomes Temporão launched a new anti-smoking campaign on May 28th. This 10 pictures are part of the Brazilian Health Department’s new anti-smoking drive that show the health risk involved with tobacco use. Images include a family at the bedside of a gravely sick man and a man suffering from impotence.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), in Brazil 17.2 per cent of 13- to 15-year-olds and 16.2 per cent of adults smoke.

WHO says about 9 per cent of boys and 10 per cent of girls aged 12 to 17 smoked cigarettes. The organisation estimates there are more than one billion smokers worldwide.

It says tobacco use kills 5.4 million people a year - an average of one person every six seconds - and accounts for one in 10 adult deaths worldwide.

Miss America 2008 - Kirsten Haglund from Michigan

Miss Michigan Kirsten Haglund, a 19-year-old aspiring Broadway star, was crowned Miss America 2008 on Saturday in a live show billed as the unveiling of the 87-year-old pageant’s new, hipper look.

Haglund, of Farmington Hills, Mich., sang “Over the Rainbow” to clinch the title. She beat Miss Indiana Nicole Elizabeth Rash, the first runner up, and Miss Washington Elyse Umemoto, the second runner up for the $50,000 scholarship and year of travel that comes with the crown.

Haglund, who studies music at the University of Cincinnati, grew up in a pageant family. Her mother is an active volunteer, and her grandmother Iora Hunt, competed for the crown as Miss Michigan 1944. Hunt was in the audience Saturday.

The crowning at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip was aired for the first time on TLC. It capped a four-week reality series, “Miss America: Reality Check,” which followed the contestants as they were pushed to shed the dated look of Miss Americas past and adopt a more updated style.

Cosplay (コスプレ), a portmanteau of the English words “costume” and “play”, is a Japanese subculture centered on dressing as characters from manga, anime, tokusatsu, video games and etc.

The first Germany Cosplay Championship (Deutsche Cosplaymeisterschaft) were held in Frankfurt, Germany last October in conjunction with Frankfurt Book Fair. Young people from entire country getting together and wrapped their body in the original costume of their favorite characters. In comparing with other ‘Comic Developed’ European countries such as France, Germany is ‘10 years late’, but according to the organizer (Association of Animexx) cosplay industry has become a boom since the last three years.

Forty-six contestants from 23 countries competed on Oct. 31, 2007, at Munich’s Reithalle in the search for the “Most Beautiful Bottom in the World”, to win a modeling contract and 10,000 euros prize money, and an insurance cover for their bottom

The competition was officially titled “Show me Your Sloggi,” after the German underwear company and contest sponsor.

German finalists in both the male and female categories were eliminated before the final round. Kristina Dimitrova and her male counterpart, 24 year-old Andrei Andrei of Bulgaria, each received €10,000 ($14,500), a modeling contract and an insurance policy for their prize-winning posterior.

Crazy Halloween in Japan

Halloween, or Hallowe’en, is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31. Traditional activities include trick-or-treating, Halloween festivals, bonfires, costume parties, visiting “haunted houses” and viewing horror films. Halloween originated from the Pagan festival Samhain, celebrated among the Celts of Ireland and Great Britain. Irish and Scottish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century.

In recent years, western-style Halloween decorations and traditions are becoming popular in Japan. Some big Halloween events are also held in many places.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival in Thailand

The Nine Emperor Gods Festival, also known as Vegetarian festival, a Chinese festival to celebrate the return from heaven to earth of the Nine Emperor spirits. The festival falls on the ninth day of the ninth moon in the Chinese lunar calendar.

In Thailand, this festival is called Tesagan Gin Je เทศกาลกินเจ, the Vegetarian Festival. Over the nine days from October 11 to Octoer 19, Chinese in Phuket Island celebrate the festival by holding a massive street processions by ‘Carrying Gods‘, they are believed to be ‘possessed by the spirits of gods’, so that they can perform some outstanding stunts.

To be able to participate in the events, one must have No Meat, Smoke, Alcohol and Sex for 10 days, to be Cleaned from dirty sins. Hundreds of believers pierce their cheeks, nose, lips, using different kind of sharp objects such as swords, daggers, rods, and M-16 Machine Gun!

Pole Dancing Championship of China

The very first Pole Dancing Championship of China was held in Beijing on 14 and 15 of July. The competition which was backed by the Asian Bodybuilding Federation attracted about 70 competitors including male dancers from 20 provinces of China.

The event was organised by Luo Lan who brought pole dancing to the Chinese mainstream in 2006, when she opened the Lolan Pole Dancing Club in Beijing. In just one year, Luo has branches across the country including Shanghai, Nanchang, of Jiangxi Province, Suzhou, and Guangzhou.

According to her, pole dancing has “nothing to do with sex“. Rather, it is a “healthy and positive” way to exercise, while also improving the self confidence of the students.
