The Chinese edition of FHM (For Him Magazine) is celebrating its forth anniversary, and shows their support for the upcoming Beijing 2008 Olympics in a stunning photoshoot. The May’08 issue of the magazine covered a 32-pages Olympic theme special and outsize pullout poster, titled ‘Journey of The Olympic Flame‘.

The magazine features four models engaged in combat and sport, with art direction that appears to be inspired by Zhang Yimou historical films.

We all agree on the concept “Make Love Not War” … here is set of impressive photoshot by photographer Steven Meisel.

Steven is a an American photographer, who obtained popular acclaim with his work in US and Italian Vogue and his photographs of friend Madonna in the latter’s 1992 book Sex.

Steven stirs up controversy with his glamorized imagery of the war in Iraq. His ‘Make Love Not War’ series (mostly) depicts sweaty, dirty soldiers in the middle of a war-zone interacting with models in a very “heated fashion” Apparently, claims are being made by ‘Women In Media and News’ suggesting this series of photographs are pornographic and evoke sexualizations of horrific situations, also saying that violence is erotic.

More than 60 people including models, make up artists, stylists, hairdressers … took part in this amazing photoshoot. It was published on `, September 2007.

In preparation for the 2008 Summer Olympics, Beijing is seeking hundreds of young women presenters for medals ceremonies during the games, which open on August 8 2008 — but only those who are tall and thin need apply.

The applicants must be between 18 and 25 and university students, height between 1.68 and 1.78 meters, and of course not too ‘fat’

The Beijing Foreign Affairs School is offering a full program in medal presenting. You too can earn a degree in a field that will become completely obsolete on August 24, 2008!

Miss America 2008 - Kirsten Haglund from Michigan

Miss Michigan Kirsten Haglund, a 19-year-old aspiring Broadway star, was crowned Miss America 2008 on Saturday in a live show billed as the unveiling of the 87-year-old pageant’s new, hipper look.

Haglund, of Farmington Hills, Mich., sang “Over the Rainbow” to clinch the title. She beat Miss Indiana Nicole Elizabeth Rash, the first runner up, and Miss Washington Elyse Umemoto, the second runner up for the $50,000 scholarship and year of travel that comes with the crown.

Haglund, who studies music at the University of Cincinnati, grew up in a pageant family. Her mother is an active volunteer, and her grandmother Iora Hunt, competed for the crown as Miss Michigan 1944. Hunt was in the audience Saturday.

The crowning at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip was aired for the first time on TLC. It capped a four-week reality series, “Miss America: Reality Check,” which followed the contestants as they were pushed to shed the dated look of Miss Americas past and adopt a more updated style.

During the Beijing 2008 Olympics, China has made it clear that 200 cheerleaders are needed to promote the spirit of the Olympic Games. In order to be a cheerleader during the games, one must go through a fierce competition to be one of the the chosen few.

Participants from elementary (primary) schools, high (secondary) schools, tertiary institutions, fitness clubs and community organizations across different cities of China such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shanxi, Liaoning, Henan, Xiamen, Sichuan, Hubei, Shandong and Heilongjiang are ready to slug it out for the top cheerleading honor.

Pole Dancing Championship of China

The very first Pole Dancing Championship of China was held in Beijing on 14 and 15 of July. The competition which was backed by the Asian Bodybuilding Federation attracted about 70 competitors including male dancers from 20 provinces of China.

The event was organised by Luo Lan who brought pole dancing to the Chinese mainstream in 2006, when she opened the Lolan Pole Dancing Club in Beijing. In just one year, Luo has branches across the country including Shanghai, Nanchang, of Jiangxi Province, Suzhou, and Guangzhou.

According to her, pole dancing has “nothing to do with sex“. Rather, it is a “healthy and positive” way to exercise, while also improving the self confidence of the students.

The Torino Chess Olympiad 2006 was held in Turin (Turino), Italy from May 20 to 6 June 2006. If you are ineterested on the results, you may check it on Wikipedia (The 37th Chess Olympiad), they have pretty good coverage about the tournament. My interest, of course was focus on other aspect.

Most Photogenic Chess Players around the WorldFrom the large collection of Pufichek Chesspics albums of players of the Torino Chess Olympiad 2006, they had selected a few for Photogenic Collection. The photos were posted for voting from May 24 to June 24, 2006, generating enormous interest from all sides of the globe, with over 10,000 people actively taking part in the voting.
