Germany Cosplay Championship
Cosplay (コスプレ), a portmanteau of the English words “costume” and “play”, is a Japanese subculture centered on dressing as characters from manga, anime, tokusatsu, video games and etc.
The first Germany Cosplay Championship (Deutsche Cosplaymeisterschaft) were held in Frankfurt, Germany last October in conjunction with Frankfurt Book Fair. Young people from entire country getting together and wrapped their body in the original costume of their favorite characters. In comparing with other ‘Comic Developed’ European countries such as France, Germany is ‘10 years late’, but according to the organizer (Association of Animexx) cosplay industry has become a boom since the last three years.

The woman category was won by Karen Heinrich (27), a graduate student from Hildesheim, who played the character of ‘Princess Ai‘. Prizes include return airline tickets to Japan.
