USS Lego

Aircraft Carrier, Lego, US Navy, Truman

A new ship is set to join the US Navy. The aircraft carrier Harry S Truman. No, not the aircraft carrier that joined the fleet in 1998. The all new, improved and miniaturized Harry S Truman. Oh, and it happens to be built entirely out of Lego blocks.

USS Lego - Aircraft Carrier Harry S TrumanUSS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) is the eighth and the last Nimitz-class supercarrier of the United States Navy, named in honor of Harry S. Truman (1884-1972), thirty- third President of the United States. This pic on the right is the real Aircraft Carrier Harry S Truman.

The real thing is one of the largest ships afloat - and this amazing copy is the biggest one ever made out of Lego.

Father-of-two Malle Hawking, 36, used more than 300,000 lego bricks to build his scale model of the USS Harry S Truman from scratch.

The Harry S Truman is one of the largest carriers in the US fleet. The full size nuclear powered aircraft carrier carries 85 warplanes and more than 5000 airmen and crew.

    Sir:
You’ve done an excellent job in constructing the AC Carrier down to the finest details available using Lego blocks. I spent countless hours playing with them myself when my children were little and invariably I would run out of shapes and colors that I needed.

    So congratulations!

I would like to point out if no one else has noticed, that the photograph of the real Harry S. Truman is a dead givaway for the Theodore Roosevelt. Even the number CVN-71 can be seen on the flight deck island. Hence the name “Big Stick”, since Teddy Roosevelt popularized the expression Speak Softly, but carry a Big Stick.

Even if I am not an friend of war or weapons in general, I have to say that your ship is one of the greatest works of lego I’ve ever seen. And trust me, I’ve seen a lot, because it is one of my passions, too.
